2 Day Kentucky Bourbon Trail Itinerary (After 20+ Stops)
Most people try to cram way too much into the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.
They end up rushing from distillery to distillery, overbooking tours, and honestly… wasting time and money.
After visiting 20+ stops on the Bourbon Trail, here’s the exact 2-day itinerary I’d recommend if you want a great experience without burning out.
If you only have 2 days on the Bourbon Trail, this is the plan I’d follow.
Day 1: Bardstown Focus (Best Overall Experience)
If it’s your first time, start in Bardstown. It’s the heart of the Bourbon Trail—and the highest concentration of quality stops.
Stop 1: Bardstown Bourbon Company
Start here for a modern, polished experience. Great pours, great cocktails, and one of the best overall setups on the Trail.
Stop 2: Lunch in Bardstown
Don’t skip this. Sit down, reset, and pace yourself.
Stop 3: Heaven Hill
Another all-in-one stop done right—cocktail bar, fill-your-own bottles, a full restaurant, and consistently strong pours.
Day 2: Lexington / Frankfort Area
Day 2 is about variety—different styles, different experiences.
Stop 1: Woodford Reserve
One of the most beautiful distilleries you’ll visit. Also one of the best for beginners.
Stop 2: Lunch Stop
Again—don’t skip this. You’ll enjoy the day more if you pace it.
Stop 3: Buffalo Trace (If You Want to Go)
This is the most visited distillery—and honestly, one of the most debated.
Worth seeing once. But if you’re short on time, there are better stops on the Trail.
What Most People Get Wrong
Trying to do 4–5 distilleries per day (here’s how many you should actually do)
Booking too many tours instead of tastings
Chasing rare bottles instead of enjoying the experience
You don’t need to do everything.
You need to do the right things.

My Honest Take
Two distilleries per day is the sweet spot.
Three if you’re pushing it.
Anything more than that—and the experience starts to drop off fast.
The Bourbon Trail isn’t about checking boxes. It’s about actually enjoying where you are.
